Core Values

The following presents the core values of Open Door Community Church.  We desire to fulfill these values as we grow together to please God in service.

 Christian Belief

We believe that in order to live an authentic Christian life, one must have a true relationship with the trinity.  We hold to the belief that Jesus is the Son of God.  We believe he was born of a virgin, he was crucified on Friday, and resurrected on Sunday.

Scripture:

When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too.  And as he was praying heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in bodily form like a dove.   And a voice came from heaven:   “you are my son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased (Luke 3: 21,22)

Scripture:

Jesus said, ”The son of man must be delivered into the hand of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again” (Luke 24:7).

Christian Equipping

We believe that it is important to the Body that its members grow in Christ.  We are committed to provide the teaching and training to accomplish this task.

Scripture:

It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.  Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-13).

 Christian Worship

We believe that God looks for authentic worship for His people.  When we worship we express Gods “worth-ship” in our lives.

Scripture:

Yes a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks.  God is spirit, and his worshippers must worship in spirit and in truth (John 4: 23, 24)

Commitment to Prayer

We believe that God must direct everything we do.  One of our precious privileges as people of God is to talk with Him through prayers.

Scripture:

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with Thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6, 7)

Commitment to Christian Living

We believe that God gives us the choice to live a life pleasing in his sight.  The power to live this life is given to us in scripture.

Scripture:

Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-this is your spiritual act of worship.  Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.  Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will (Romans 12:1-2).

Commitment to Outreach

We believe that God has empowered us to be his witnesses here on earth.  It is a privilege to be God’s representative in this world today.

Scripture:

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the Earth (Act 1:8).

 Commitment to His Word

We believe that God inspired men to write His word, and that the Bible is the written word of God.  It is written for us to live by.

Scripture:

All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work (II Timothy 3:16, 17).

 Commitment to Giving

We believe God loves those who give with a cheerful heart and He increases the seeds that are sown in His kingdom work.

Scripture:

Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. (Mark 12:41); Give on the first day of the week; (1 Corinthians 16:1-2); Do not rob God: (Malachi 3:8-12).
